EV-BOY Connect, by EV-BOY, is free on iPhone and Android. No account is required, and your charging history stays on your phone. Below: how to report a problem, the iPhone settings to check, and frequently asked questions.
Report a problem in the app
- Open Settings and tap Report a problem.
- Tell us what happened, for example "I charged at home last night but there's no record this morning."
- Tap Open email, then send it from your email app.
The email includes your app version, phone model, car model, the last 6 characters of your VIN, the last 48 hours of Bluetooth activity, and the time and location coordinates of each charge, so we can find the cause and check station matching. Costs, charging station names and car keys are never included.
Getting the best results on iPhone
A few settings and habits help your iPhone log every charge on time:
- Turn on Settings › General › Background App Refresh, and make sure it's on for EV-BOY Connect.
- Keep Low Power Mode (Settings › Battery) off while you charge.
- When you're done, just go back to the Home Screen. The app keeps working in the background, so leave it there rather than swiping it away in the app switcher.
- Open the app once after you unplug. It reads the car straight away and records the final energy and cost for that charge.
FAQ
Do I need a Tesla account?
No. The app connects to your car directly over Bluetooth.
Can the app control my car?
No. It uses a read-only car key and reads only charging, location and odometer data.
How are costs calculated?
Public charges use the station's published price at the time. Home charges use the rate you set. If the app picked the wrong charger, open the charge and tap Change charger to choose a nearby station, Home or Another public charger. If you have a receipt, tap Enter actual bill to use the exact amount; you can change it again later. Station matching is available only in Hong Kong. Elsewhere the app still works: every charge is still logged automatically, and you just choose Another public charger and enter the actual fee yourself. If you have real-time availability and pricing data in other regions, contact us about a partnership.
How do I make sure every charge is logged?
Keep Bluetooth on and leave the app running in the background. After restarting your phone, unlock it once. On Android, set the app's battery usage to Unrestricted.
Are there any iPhone settings I should check?
Turn on Background App Refresh, keep Low Power Mode off while charging, and leave the app in the background instead of swiping it away. Open the app once after you unplug to record the final energy and cost. See "Getting the best results on iPhone" above.
What is the key called in my car?
A new key shows up in the car's key list as "Phone Key". The app suggests renaming it "EV-BOY Connect" so it's easy to spot later.
How do I remove the app from my car?
Remove the car in Settings › Cars, then delete "Phone Key" (or "EV-BOY Connect" if you renamed it) from the key list on the car's screen.
Can one phone log more than one car?
Yes. In Settings › Cars, tap Add a second car (or Add a car). Each car keeps its own records and home rate, and you can switch cars or view all cars on Home, Records and Reports.
Can one car be connected to several phones?
We don't recommend it. Use one main phone per car. Each phone adds its own read-only key to the car, and the car's key list has a limit. Each phone keeps its own records, which don't sync, so the same charge may be recorded twice. The car holds only about 3 Bluetooth connections at once, shared with phone keys and key fobs, so several phones can compete, slowing phone-key unlocking or missing charges.
