Last updated: 2026-10-23 Publisher: EV-BOY Limited (EV-BOY) Product: EV-BOY Connect Site: https://connect.ev-boy.com/ English site: https://connect.ev-boy.com/en/ Languages: zh-Hant-HK, en App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6825178845 Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.evboy.connect ## What it is EV-BOY Connect is a free app for iPhone (iOS 18 or later) and Android (Android 12 or later), with no in-app purchases. It is on the App Store (https://apps.apple.com/app/id6825178845) and Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.evboy.connect). It connects to the car over Bluetooth and logs the energy (kWh) and cost of each charge. There is nothing to type for an ordinary charge. No account and no car-account login are required. Charging history stays on the phone and is not sent to EV-BOY, except in a problem report the person chooses to send. Supported cars stated on the site: Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X. The app currently supports Tesla only. Station matching is available only in Hong Kong. Elsewhere the app still works: every charge is still logged automatically, and the person chooses Another public charger and enters the actual fee. Charging operators, charging networks and data providers with real-time availability and pricing data in other regions can contact EV-BOY via the partners page. The app name is EV-BOY Connect. It is an independent app and is not affiliated with any car maker, charging operator or electricity company. ## How charging is priced - Public charging in Hong Kong: the app matches the station and uses that station's published price at the time. If several stations are nearby, or the match is wrong, the person can change the station at any time (a nearby station, Home or Another public charger), and can override the fee with the receipt amount afterwards, more than once. Outside Hong Kong the app still works: every charge is still logged automatically, and the person chooses Another public charger (or Home) and enters the actual fee with Add the cost or Enter actual bill. The partners pages invite operators who already have that data elsewhere: https://connect.ev-boy.com/partners/ and https://connect.ev-boy.com/en/partners/ - Home charging: the person enters a home electricity rate once. Later home charges are priced on the phone from that rate, with no network lookup. A receipt amount can be entered instead. Home is learned when the person picks Home on a charge, or accepts the app's offer after two AC charges at the same place on different days; later AC charges within about 150 m of it are marked home automatically. - Costs shown in the app are what the person pays a charging operator or electricity company, not EV-BOY. They can differ from the actual bill. The operator's or electricity company's bill is what counts. Published prices can change. - Reports show spend over any period (last month, 3 or 6 months, this or last year, or a custom range), what each operator charged, time-of-day prices, and how far each kWh goes. A CSV can be exported. One phone can log several cars, each kept separate with its own home rate. Using one car with several phones is not recommended (see Support answers). ## The read-only car key The app adds a read-only car key to the car. The key is created on the phone. It is used only to read charging status, battery level, the car's reported location (to recognise the charger) and the odometer (to work out distance per kWh). The key cannot lock or unlock the car, drive it, turn on the climate, start or stop charging, or change any setting. In the car's key list it first appears as "Phone Key". The app suggests renaming it "EV-BOY Connect". Removing the car in the app, or uninstalling the app, does not delete the key from the car. The person deletes "Phone Key" or the renamed "EV-BOY Connect" key from the car's key list. The phone's own location is not used. The app does not ask for a location permission. The car reports where it charged, over Bluetooth. ## Setup, as stated on the home page 1. Enter the VIN. The app shows how to copy it from the car's own app. 2. Pair in the car: sit in the car, place the key card on the reader, then confirm on the car's screen. 3. Enter the home electricity rate. After that, charges are logged automatically. If the car is asleep, the app wakes it briefly, and only when it needs to read data. ## Privacy stance App, today: - Charging records, VIN, car model, home tariff, the digital key and the last 48 hours of diagnostic logs are stored on the phone and are not sent to EV-BOY (except in a problem report the person sends). - Charging records and the digital key are included in the person's own iCloud or Google backup. On iPhone, iCloud or computer backups may include charging records, and the digital key syncs through iCloud Keychain when it is on. On Android, when the phone has a screen lock, charging records and the digital key are included in the Google backup, and Android device-to-device transfer moves them to a new phone. No other app data is included in Android backups. - A public price lookup sends, over HTTPS, only the charging location's coordinates, the charge start time, AC or DC, and charging power (kW), to EV-BOY's price service at maps.ev-boy.com. It does not send the VIN, the kWh, an account, or anything that identifies the person. The query is used to answer the price and is not stored as a record. The server keeps ordinary technical logs (IP address, path and time) to run the service. - Home charging does not make that lookup. - To offer a station choice, the app downloads the public station list from maps.ev-boy.com; that request carries no location or identity, and the nearby filter runs on the phone. - A problem report is sent only when the person writes one in Settings › Report a problem, taps Open email, and sends it from their own email app to info [at] ev-boy.com. It includes their description and email address, app version, phone model, system version, permission status, car model, the last 6 characters of the VIN, and the last 48 hours of diagnostic logs. It also lists each charge's time, location coordinates, AC/DC and match result, used to check station matching. It does not include cost, station names, car keys or encrypted content. EV-BOY deletes the report after the problem is resolved. - The App Store and Google Play version sends anonymous usage statistics to Google (Google Analytics) to see which features people use: screens opened, setup progress, pairing result and reason, features used (CSV export, adding a charge, entering a cost), settings changed, and phone OS, app version, app language and number of cars (0, 1, 2+). The statistics do not include energy, cost, charging stations, location, VIN, car name or car model. No ads, no advertising identifier, and no cross-app tracking. The statistics are not linked to the person's identity. Google assigns a random installation id, replaced on reinstall; it is not an advertising identifier. Google derives a coarse area from the IP address and does not store the IP. Usage statistics are kept for up to 2 months. Development and test builds send nothing. There is no switch in the app to turn the statistics off. - Permissions stated: Bluetooth; notifications; on Android, Nearby devices, a foreground service and companion-device permissions so the app can read charging data in the background while the person is near the car. - The person can delete charging history and diagnostic logs in Settings › Clear records on this phone. Uninstalling deletes what the app stored on the phone; copies in the person's iCloud, iCloud Keychain or Google backup are not deleted. - Although EV-BOY does not collect personal data that identifies a person, under Hong Kong's Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance they can still ask to access or correct any personal data EV-BOY may hold, or ask for it to be deleted, by emailing info [at] ev-boy.com. - The app is not for children. This website (connect.ev-boy.com): - Uses Google Analytics cookies to collect anonymous, aggregated usage statistics, such as pages visited and general interactions, to improve the site. The statistics do not identify a person. The website has no ads. - Website statistics are separate from the app and include nothing from the app. - The language choice stays in the browser and is not sent to EV-BOY. - Google's pages explain how Google uses information from sites that use its services, and how to opt out of Google Analytics. ## Support answers These repeat the support pages. iPhone tip 4 is: after unplugging, open the app once so it reads the car straight away and records that charge's energy and cost. - A car account is not required. The app connects over Bluetooth. - The app cannot control the car. It uses a read-only car key and reads charging, location and odometer data. - To keep charges logging: leave Bluetooth on, leave the app in the background, unlock the phone once after a restart, and on Android set the app's battery usage to Unrestricted. - iPhone: turn on Background App Refresh for EV-BOY Connect, keep Low Power Mode off while charging, do not swipe the app away in the app switcher, and open the app once after unplugging. - Report a problem from Settings › Report a problem, then send the email the app opens. - One phone can log several cars (Settings › Cars › Add a car); each car's records and home rate are separate. - One car with several phones is not recommended; use one main phone per car. Each phone adds its own read-only key and the car's key list has a limit; each phone's records stay on that phone and don't sync, so a charge may be recorded twice; the car holds only about 3 Bluetooth connections at once, shared with phone keys and fobs, so several phones can compete, slow phone-key unlocking or miss charges. ## Changelog The changelog pages list what changed in each app version: https://connect.ev-boy.com/changelog/ and https://connect.ev-boy.com/en/changelog/ - 1.0.1: home locations are kept on the phone and shared by all cars; an AC charge of any car within 150 m of a home location is logged as a home charge, and DC fast charges are not. Deleting a car keeps the home locations and clears only that car's home rate. Settings › Home location lists and clears home locations; past charges stay as they are. The update does not turn a charge into a home charge if its place was already chosen, a cost was entered, or it was matched to a public station. Car info shows an estimated battery health, reference only, once there is enough charge data; it is not a battery management system (BMS) reading. Usable battery size is estimated from the VIN, then worked out from charges, and is not entered by the person. Charging history and the phone key are included in the person's own iCloud or Google backup. The station list says when no station was found near the charge. A stuck Bluetooth link reconnects by itself. Opening the charge port without charging no longer adds a 0 kWh record, and a charge counter that drops at unplug no longer counts as a new charge. - 1.0.0: first release. ## Pages - https://connect.ev-boy.com/ - https://connect.ev-boy.com/en/ - https://connect.ev-boy.com/support/ - https://connect.ev-boy.com/en/support/ - https://connect.ev-boy.com/changelog/ - https://connect.ev-boy.com/en/changelog/ - https://connect.ev-boy.com/privacy/ - https://connect.ev-boy.com/en/privacy/ - https://connect.ev-boy.com/terms/ - https://connect.ev-boy.com/en/terms/ - https://connect.ev-boy.com/partners/ - https://connect.ev-boy.com/en/partners/ - https://connect.ev-boy.com/llms.txt ## Data partners Station matching currently covers Hong Kong only. Outside Hong Kong the app still records every charge automatically, and the person chooses the station and enters the fee. EV-BOY invites charging operators, charging networks and data providers that have real-time availability and pricing data in other regions to get in touch. Useful data: station locations, real-time availability, tariffs and pricing, and API access. The partners pages show the same plain-text contact as the rest of the site (info [at] ev-boy.com).
